Is Your Mattress Making You Sick?

We spend a lot of time in our beds. We sleep there. We lounge there. Almost 1/3 of our lives are spent on our mattresses.

Did you know that your habits when it comes to mattress ownership can affect your health? It was noted that 1 in 8 people in the UK washed their bedding once a month or longer. Needless to say that this increases the risk that bed bugs will infest and cause great grief.

It is also said that in 10 years, the average mattress will double in weight due to all of the bed bugs and dust mites that feed upon the fallen skin flakes, producing allergens as they live their lives. A half teaspoon of dust (about a gram) of dust contains as many as 1,000 dust mites and 250,000 allergenic dust mite fecal pellets.

What can you do about it? Cover your pillows and mattresses in allergy bedding, wash your bedding consistently in hot water, and use a HEPA/HEGA filter, such as the Austin Air HealthMate air purifiers to filter the air in your bedroom while you sleep.
